One in a Million Award recipient: Lindsey Gavel

Where she’s multiplying good: Chicago, Illinois

How she’s multiplying good: She is One in a Million. Since the start of Illinois' shelter-in-place orders, Lindsey Gavel has been helping tackle the problem of not enough PPE. In the past 6 weeks she has constructed and given away 800 4-layer masks to her neighbors in East Garfield Park, healthcare workers, and many other Chicagoans who have asked for one. She sometimes uses fabric and materials donated by those receiving masks, and puts a lot of care into the mask pack. Lindsey started this project with a fury and burned through the motor of her sewing machine by making hundreds of masks in the first weeks, She has since been lent a sewing machine by a kind neighbor and hasn't stopped cranking the masks out yet!
