Where they are multiplying good: Chicago, IL
How they are multiplying good: They are all One in a Million. We train older adults/seniors to be mentors and tutors to school age children who live in low income communities. We provide the senior with basic computer classes, basic first aid classes; we teach the how to assist the teachers in the classroom . The seniors learn how to provided social and emotional care to children who need support dealing with emotional problems.
The seniors are also provided with resources to help them with challenges they face. We help them with money management, how to avoid scams, how to manage medication and other issues that may arise . The program also provided an opportunity for the seniors to make to news, socialize with peers, learns new skills and be exposed to different cultural events.
The seniors are provided with a small stipend each month that helps most of them make ends meet. They use it to help pays bills, purchase food and medication or help other family members. The program gives the seniors a purpose in life, it keeps them busy and reliant.
